Coventry Copsewood Retain The Coventry Telegraph Cup

DSC03732COVENTRY COPSEWOOD RETAIN THE COVENTRY TELEGRAPH CUP

Coventry Copsewood retained the Coventry Telegraph Cup and gave their manager Darren Dickson the perfect send off with a 3-2 victory over Triumph Athletic.

Another good crowd for what could be the last game of football at the Ricoh Arena for a while, saw both sides creating some good chances with Jac Redhead creating a number of problems on the left for the Triumph defence.

Triumph from the Coventry Alliance League went close in the 24th minute when good work by Dave Freeman saw him draw out Dale O’Donnell and cross for Lewis Normoyle who fired wide with the goal at his mercy.

It was Triumph who took the lead in the 42nd minute when Freeman was fouled by O’Donnell and the referee Mr Nestor awarded a penalty which Nick Walker duly converted with ease.

Just before the half ended, Copsewood thought they had levelled when Sean Kavanagh turned home a cross from the right. However, the flag of Phil Gibbins was up and the goal was chalked off after consultation between the match officials.

Copsewood were level three minutes into the second half with Sean Kavanagh collecting the ball and controlling it before beating Budd with a smart finish.

The goal lifted Darren Dickson’s side and just after the hour mark, Danny Fraser put Copsewood ahead with a twenty-yard free kick which sailed into the far corner of the net.

With three minutes to go, Sean Kavanagh ran though and fired past Budd for a third goal for the Midland Football League Division One side.

Triumph set up a grandstand finish when substitute Owen Wassall scored from inside the area but Copsewood held firm and Darren Dickson, who is standing down as manager of Coventry Copsewood signed off with a victory.

The End For Coventry Jets

Club Announcement-

Coventry Jets AFC & Etone Jaguars AFA Joint Statement:

Coventry Jets:

It is with great sadness that following the conclusion of the 2018 season we will cease operating as the Coventry Jets and will be transferring the club and all assets to the Etone Jaguars American Football Academy. The team will be re-locating and rebranding as the Jaguars Senior programme competing in BAFA’s NFC Division 2 in 2019.

The Jets have been on a steady decline for the last couple of years and will embrace the fresh start the Etone bid brings to the table. It was a hard decision but one that was ultimately left to our members after several weeks of discussion.

The Jets will forever be in the History books as a team that exceeded expectations. Under the guidance of the late Gerry McManus competing in Europe and going to 6 consecutive Britbowls from 2005-2010. Winning a National Championship in 2008, Britbowl XXII will go down as arguably one of the best finals of all time.

The club would like to thank all the supporters, volunteers, staff and players that have been apart of the Jets family over the last 14 years of which we hope you will continue to show your support as a new era begins under the Jaguars banner.

Special thanks must go out to the late Gerry McManus, Paul Rickuss, Sean Martin & current Head Coach Sam Kendall for all their efforts and time that kept the Jets going for all those years.

The Jets will compete for the last time this coming weekend with our final home fixture Vs Doncaster Mustangs and will be hoping after a troubled season to go out on high. We would love to see as many former players, coaches and anyone that has been involved with the club down to cheer us on in our finale.

Etone Jaguars:

The Etone Jaguars American Football Academy are happy to announce a deal has been struck to take over the ownership and running of the Coventry Jets American Football programme. As part of the take over the Jets will be relocated, rebranded and become the Etone Jaguars Senior Team for 2019.

Etone Jaguars Founder and Chairman Lawrence Grugeon commented “It was always my intention to grow the Jaguars football programme and be able to offer all tiers of football by 2022, this just accelerates things. With the emergence of our U12 Flag team this year along side a very successful second season for the U17’s finishing a respectable 4th in the country, I saw an opportunity to help a club that I was a founder member of in 2004. The Jets have been on a steady decline for several years now which is a shame for the once Britball powerhouse. I believe with a fresh set of eyes managing the programme and backed by a great Academy set-up adding to a talented but underachieving squad the new Etone Jaguars Senior team can have a bounce back year in 2019.”

The Etone Jaguars are also happy to announce their intentions to add an U19 team and an all Women’s kitted team for competition in 2019.
For more information on how to join the Etone Jaguars American Football Academy programmes please email: etoneamericanfootballhc@gmail.com

Sincerely,

Coventry Jets.

THE DAMNED ACHIEVE THEIR FIRST TOP TEN ALBUM!

UK TOUR ANNOUNCED FOR NOVEMBER INCLUDING LONDON O2 SHEPHERD’S BUSH EMPIRE ON THE 23RD

NEW ALBUM ‘EVIL SPIRITS’ – OUT NOW ON SEARCH AND DESTROY/SPINEFARM RECORDS

“Dave Vanian sounds as though he relishes every word he sings and Captain Sensible plays out of his skin.” 5/5 The Express

“The Damned have become, if possible, more eccentric and outrageous as they grow older.” The Independent
“The results are terrific.” 4/5 Mojo

“Stands up with the very best of the band’s back catalogue.” Classic Rock

This week The Damned are currently occupying the number seven position in the Official UK Album Charts with their new album ‘Evil Spirits’, released Friday 13th April via Search and Destroy/Spinefarm Records. It’s a big achievement for the punk rock born British legends, who, despite huge success in the seventies and eighties, never quite made the top ten, narrowly missing the chance in 1985 when ‘Phantasmagoria’ peaked at number 11.

The huge swell of support from their fans, critics and aficionados however, has propelled the Tony Visconti produced ‘Evil Spirits’ to the top and has shown the world just how relevant, forty-one years after their inception, The Damned still are. Never ones to play safe, the band always retained the energy of punk but were never content to stay within those narrow confines and ‘Evil Spirits’ continues in that progressive journey.

The Damned started 2018 with a sprawling UK tour in January and February with former member Paul Gray back on bass, and they will end the year with another run of UK shows in November where the band will get the chance to set free their Evil Spirits at the following dates, including a performance at the prestigious London 02 Shepherd’s Bush Empire on November 23rd.

‘Evil Spirits’ is available on digital download via Spotify and i-Tunes, on CD and 180g vinyl available to order now from
