Coventry Copsewood retained the Coventry Telegraph Cup and gave their manager Darren Dickson the perfect send off with a 3-2 victory over Triumph Athletic.

Another good crowd for what could be the last game of football at the Ricoh Arena for a while, saw both sides creating some good chances with Jac Redhead creating a number of problems on the left for the Triumph defence.

Triumph from the Coventry Alliance League went close in the 24th minute when good work by Dave Freeman saw him draw out Dale O’Donnell and cross for Lewis Normoyle who fired wide with the goal at his mercy.

It was Triumph who took the lead in the 42nd minute when Freeman was fouled by O’Donnell and the referee Mr Nestor awarded a penalty which Nick Walker duly converted with ease.

Just before the half ended, Copsewood thought they had levelled when Sean Kavanagh turned home a cross from the right. However, the flag of Phil Gibbins was up and the goal was chalked off after consultation between the match officials.

Copsewood were level three minutes into the second half with Sean Kavanagh collecting the ball and controlling it before beating Budd with a smart finish.

The goal lifted Darren Dickson’s side and just after the hour mark, Danny Fraser put Copsewood ahead with a twenty-yard free kick which sailed into the far corner of the net.

With three minutes to go, Sean Kavanagh ran though and fired past Budd for a third goal for the Midland Football League Division One side.

Triumph set up a grandstand finish when substitute Owen Wassall scored from inside the area but Copsewood held firm and Darren Dickson, who is standing down as manager of Coventry Copsewood signed off with a victory.
