A team of young local footballers has been given the opportunity to continue their football careers, by joining Coventry United’s Under 16 team.
After a very successful season, the former Under 15’s players of Coventry Schools F.A. was without a team, as the Association does not play at Under 16’s level. With this in mind, the players, who have been together for three seasons, and won both the League title and League cup, and with it promotion to the Midland Junior Premier League (MJPL), have joined players from Coventry United’s Under 16’s to form a new MJPL team.
Paul Tierney from the new Coventry United U16’s team, said: ‘We are absolutely delighted to be given the opportunity to play for Coventry United next season and would like to thank all involved with the Club who have given us a tremendous amount of support over the last few weeks to make this happen. We are really looking forward to a competitive and enjoyable season in the MJPL.’
Marcus Green, Director of Coventry United F.C., said: ‘It is really exciting for Coventry United to have these young players joining our growing family, and for us to have the opportunity to play in the MJPL. As well as winning the League and League cup, several of the players were also in the West Midlands County team who won the league title last season.’
Marcus added: ‘When we started Coventry United we had community involvement at our heart and wanted to build our Club on the principles of fairness, equality, innovation, integrity and transparency. We see these young players from the Coventry Schools F.A. joining us as yet another example of how we are achieving this.’
