The Coventry Beer Festival will be held again this this year at Coventry Rugby Club, the Butts Arena in Spon End. The event, organised by the Coventry & District branch of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA), has been hosted at this venue since 2006.
The Festival will be held on 17-18th March, generally held in April it had to be brought forward as the venue was not available at a suitable date that month.
Many styles of British traditional ales on offer, ranging from pale bitters to black stouts and porters. All the draught beers for sale will be made from natural ingredients with no artificial additives and some will be vegan friendly.
The organisers are particularly pleased to have persuaded Coventry’s three breweries to brew new beers especially for the Festival:- Twisted
Barrel are supplying the only cask which will ever be produced of their 8.5% Double IPA – their first ever canned beer that will never be available in cask again; Dhillons are providing Red IPA (6.2%); and Byatts are sending Blackfriars Porter and a brand new Munich Pale Ale.
In total, 84 different beers will be on sale, including some from parts of the country from which we rarely see beers in Coventry. This year for the first-time beers have been obtained from artisanal breweries from the north east and the Edinburgh area. Additionally, beers will be available from the south east and south west. There will also be over a dozen beers from highly regarded nationally known
breweries such as Thornbridge and Oakham, and a range of beers from up and coming South Wales breweries e.g. Borough of Neath, Hopcraft and Mantle.
A variety of farmhouse ciders, perries, and fruit wines will be available as well as a selection of foreign bottled beers supplied by the Beer Gonzo off-licence in Earlsdon
Opening times are 12 noon-4pm and 6pmm 11pm on Friday and for the first time ever the Festival will be open all day on Saturday from 12 noon to 11pm .
The Festival supports a different charity each year and this year’s chosen charity is RNLI.
Updates nearer the Festival will be posted on the branch website at http://www.coventry.camra.org.uk and on twitter:@covcamra
