PETERBOROUGH promoter Ged Rathbone still wants Coventry to take to the East of England Showground track on Sunday March 19th.
The ‘T Balfe Construction’ Panthers supremo is hopeful a mouth-watering inter-league Challenge clash against the Bees on Sunday, March 19 will still go ahead.
Coventry were dramatically withdrawn from the SGB Premiership last weekend when having their licence put on ice by the sport’s governing body, the British Speedway Promoters’ Association (BSPA).
But Rathbone is optimistic the East of England Showground season-opener can still take place.
He said: “We hope to be able to press on with the opening meeting against Coventry.
“We’re in the process of speaking to the current Coventry riders and some past riders to see if there is interest in putting a team together.
“We’ll do everything we can to give the Coventry supporters the chance to turn out in force and cheer on their team.
“It’s a short trip over to the East of England Showground for them and I’m sure it is something which would still appeal to Bees fans.
“I know the prospect of taking on an SGB Premiership team has excited our fans so hopefully it will still happen.”
